Connect Dovey to Codex
Two lines in config.toml put Dovey in Codex. Then research the winning ads in your category, get a brief and make new ads in your brand from the terminal.
How to connect
- 01
Open the Codex config
Open
~/.codex/config.toml. Create it if it does not exist. - 02
Add the Dovey server
Add these two lines.
[mcp_servers.dovey] url = "https://api.makedovey.com/mcp" - 03
Start Codex and sign in
The first Dovey tool call opens a browser sign-in. A free account works.
- 04
Check it is there
Run
codex mcp list.
What to ask first
Ask in plain words. Codex picks the Dovey tool and shows the results as tables.
Research the top performing ads for AI note-taking apps and list the hooks
Returns the top performing ads and their hooks as a table.
Write a brief for 5 new ads for our app from that research
Returns a brief: one row per ad, each with its angle, its hook and the ad it borrows from.
Make the ads in our brand with our app screenshot
Makes the ads in your colors, type and voice. They land on your Dovey canvas too.
Change the second ad to a dark background and a shorter headline
Makes a new version of that ad. The first one stays as it was.
Questions
Does Codex need an API key for Dovey?
No. The sign-in is OAuth in the browser; Codex keeps the token.
Can I use it in the Codex app or IDE extension?
Yes, they read the same config.toml.
Can my team share it?
Yes. The same entry can live in a project's .codex/config.toml, so everyone who opens the project gets it.
What does it cost?
The connector is free to add. Free has limited usage and needs no card. Pro is $29 a month with 12x usage and Max is $99 a month with 60x usage. Usage resets every Monday.
