Connect Dovey to Gemini

In the Gemini CLI, Dovey is one entry in settings.json: research the winning ads in your category, get a brief and make new ads in your brand. The Gemini app takes no custom connectors, so there you paste.

How to connect

  1. 01

    Open the Gemini settings

Open ~/.gemini/settings.json. Create it if needed.

  2. 02

    Add the Dovey server

    Under mcpServers add this.

    "dovey": {"httpUrl": "https://api.makedovey.com/mcp"}
  3. 03

    Start gemini and sign in

Start gemini. The first Dovey tool call opens a browser sign-in. A free account works.

  4. 04

    Check it is there

    Run /mcp inside the session.

What to ask first

In the Gemini CLI, ask in plain words. Gemini picks the Dovey tool.

  • Research the top performing supplement ads and the angles they use

Returns the top performing ads and their angles as a table.

  • Write a brief for 3 new ads for our magnesium gummies

Returns a brief: one row per ad, each with its angle, its hook and the ad it borrows from.

  • Make those ads in our brand with our product photo

Makes the ads in your colors, type and voice. They land on your Dovey canvas too.

  • Change the first ad to a kitchen counter scene

Makes a new version of that ad. The first one stays as it was.

Questions

Will the Gemini app take connectors later?

Google has said extensions are coming to more surfaces. When custom MCP connectors land, the address above will work there too, and this page will say so.

Is the paste route worse?

It is one more step, and the app only reads what you paste. To make ads, use the Gemini CLI or Dovey on the web.

What does it cost?

The connector is free to add. Free has limited usage and needs no card. Pro is $29 a month with 12x usage and Max is $99 a month with 60x usage. Usage resets every Monday.
